As the party continued to chase Xeres they were stopped again by another cavern of fiends. Inside the cavern a twenty foot wide cavern stood between them and the exit on the other side of the room. In the cavern below undead creatures stirred awaiting their arrival. On the far side of the cave a skeleton burning with mystical fire readied for battle.
Greth began running toward the cavern edge in an attempt to leap over it and engage the burning skeleton. Unfortunately, he caught his foot on a rock mid stride and slid over the edge, falling 20 feet down to the cavern floor. He lay there looking up as the creatures in the cavern closed in on him. Just as Greth looked to be lost, Roseshadow leaped forward slicing through one of the shadow motes closing in on Greth.
The burning skeleton was angered by losing one of his minions and hurled forward a ball of fire. Unable to dodge in time Roseshadow was set ablaze by the molten ball. Garson and Elban made quick work of two other shadow motes in an effort to shield Greth and Roseshadow from further harm. Elwood began invoking powers from within firing forth a blast of energy killing the last mote and stunning a withering that was charging from the cavern.
Returning to his feet, Greth scales the far wall and opens the gates of battle on the burning skeleton. His bones are rattled from the continued strikes and many of his bones begin to crack. While Greth has the burning skeleton in his sights, the rest of the party was dealing with the cavern dwellers. Elban placed his fingers to his temples and next thing that was seen, the creeping wither quickly slid to the edge of a pit and plummeted to the bottom of the pit with a thud.
The party is now in full combat mode landing blows on the skeletons and crushing their bones under the weight of their weapons. Greth has managed to dismantle the burning skeleton and is moving back to help the rest of the party. Before he can reach them they have shattered the remaining skeletons and Elban ends the meager life of the wither by exploding it’s head with his psionic powers.
Realizing the reason they had come in this direction was to catch Xeres. The party makes their way. Up the other side of the cavern and continues to chase him through the caves.
